Treating a yeast infection

Yeast infections in English bulldogs can be treated with antifungal shampoos, creams, pills, or probiotics. 

Treatment:: 

• Medicated baths: Wash your dog every 3-5 days with an antifungal shampoo for 2-12 weeks. 

• Topical cream: Apply an antifungal cream to small areas of infection. 

• Oral medication: If the infection is widespread or severe, your dog may need pills. 

• Probiotics: Look for a brand with at least 10 strains of live probiotics. 

Prevention:: 

• Regularly bathe your dog with an anti-fungal shampoo.

• Brush your dog daily.

• Consider a species-appropriate diet and dietary supplements.

• Avoid foods high in sugar and carbs.

Symptoms:: 

• Itching and scratching

• Skin color change, usually darker

• Crust, scales

• Dry skin

• Greasy skin

• Skin thickening

• Funky moldy musty odor

• Red, irritated ears

Causes:: 

• An underactive or overreactive immune system

• Allergies

• Foods high in sugar and carbs

• Heat and humidity

• Poor hygiene

• Trapped moisture in skin folds, ears, or paw pads
